Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Hōkūle‘a

It's no secret that Polynesian voyagers are the stuff of legends. Steeped in history, these exclusive sandals are woven with the spirit of wayfinders past and present. Honoring the historic 1975 maiden Hōkūle‘a voyage, they pay tribute to the legacy of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and are hand-crafted with cloth from the original Hōkūle‘a sail. With only 75 pairs made, they're the ultimate  gift for every father figure who’s helped light the way forward.

Founded in 1973, the Polynesian Voyaging Society is committed to perpetuating the art and science of traditional Polynesian navigation. Through voyaging, PVS hopes to inspire humanity to care for the earth by highlighting the vital importance of oceans, indigenous knowledge, communities, education, and sustainability.

Hōkūle‘a, a performance-accurate deep sea voyaging canoe built in the tradition of ancient Hawaiian wa‘a kaulua (double-hulled voyaging canoe) represents a renewal and new-found respect and appreciation for Hawaiian culture, by all of Hawai‘i’s people. Learn more here

Named after a hawaiian zenith star, Hōkūle‘a's launching was one of many events that marked a generation of renewal for Hawai‘i’s indigenous people, including voyaging, language, dance, and other expressions of Hawaiian culture.

Sister canoe to Hōkūle‘a, Hikianalia, is journeying around our Hawaiian Islands and Polynesia using science and sustainable technologies to discover stories of hope that are being shared with students and learners of all ages.
