Hawaiʻiloa Lā Hope
(ha-vye-ee-loh-ah lah ho-peh)Translation: a Sail Facing Toward the Aft of the Canoe
The Hawai’iloa Lā Hope is a carefully crafted sandal designed to celebrate the legendary Hawai’iloa voyaging canoe. Each color used on the sandal’s leather footbed symbolizes a different characteristic intrinsic to the voyaging canoe: blue represents the water currents traveled during voyages, brown represents lauhala weaving as a symbol of community strength, and yellow represents rope lashings which hold Hawai’iloa together. Using traditional stitching and digital-printed artwork on the footbed to recount the canoe’s journey, the Hawai’iloa Lā Hope symbolizes the collaboration of cultures.
Strap features hand-sewn whipstitching as well as laser details that symbolize the 200-foot tall Sitka spruce trees used to make the canoe hulls. Digital-printed leather footbed details depicting the journey of Hawai’iloa.
Rich and premium full-grain leather paired with a leather wrapped nautical rope toe post and elegant soft leather lining.
Anatomical molded EVA midsole with a premium full-grain leather footbed cover, digital printed Hawai’iloa artwork, and plush foam underlay for all day comfort.
Non-marking molded rubber outsole with forefoot traction pods.
